Frequently asked questions.
Are we Christians?
Absolutely, unapologetically, we are! This would never have been possible without our faith and calling from God. We credit God with our gifts and the way that has been paved to make this program a reality. Our program is grounded in Christian principles, and our Statement of Faith and Guiding Principles are available on our website.
Did we homeschool our own kids?
Yes! We believe it is so important to be able to homeschool that we did it ourselves! Understanding the unique needs of homeschool families makes us different. While we have varied experience in traditional teaching environments from elementary through college levels, we really do value homeschooling. Not everyone is great at every subject, project, or topic, and we want to help you where you need it.
Is my child still considered a homeschooled student?
Yes. You are still your child’s primary teacher. Your child is registered in the county in which you live by filing your Letter of Intent to Homeschool. We are happy to help you make sure that you meet this requirement every year, to help support you in your homeschool journey if you need us to.
Why do you call your staff instructors?
Because God gave parents the charge to teach their children. We know that homeschooled students belong to their parents and that their education ultimately rests in their hands. We aren’t here to take control of your journey; we walk alongside you to give you the tools and classes that you decide you need. We want to support you and your child along the way. We will provide instruction in subject areas, projects, and during class time, but parents are their child’s teacher.
Why two days?
Two days will give time for the introduction of content in the different subject areas, enough time to complete hands-on learning, review, and re-evaluation of concept understanding, so that time at home can be spent completing work and preparing questions for the following class period. We also want to make sure you have the flexibility to work together on the things you need at home, and also to enjoy the time that being at home provides to you.
CAN WE DO ONE DAY?
Yes! We are now offering a one-day-per-week schedule. Our goal is always to support families, and if that means support and guidance for one day to help with your family goals and weekly learning, we are here for you!
Can we take only the subjects that we want?
Yes. We can offer a complete learning package for your family, but we also want you to have the ability to decide what classes your student and family need to optimize your homeschool experience.
What do you mean by personalized learning?
We evaluate each child in core subject areas to determine where they are excelling and where they need more support. Your child may be reading way above grade level and be on grade level in math. We want your child to be able to advance through subjects successfully and at the pace that they are able, with the support that they need.
What grades will you enroll?
We take students in grades K through 12. We group similar aged students into learning groups and provide instruction to the group in topicality and then spend time with the students helping them complete work that is directed at their specific age and ability.
Can you grade my student’s work?
We can grade your child’s work in the classes that they take at Ascend. We offer progress reports each semester and will check in with parents frequently to discuss how the child is doing in class. We can provide feedback on grading so that everyone understands the grade and evaluation for the work provided. This is optional and not required.
